According to IMDb Melissa's character is Francis... I didn't read the book, without spoiler please can someone tell me more about the character:)? Hey so Frances is a disheveled romance novelist, whose life is unraveling from multiple rejections: her publisher spurned her new book, she got an especially stinging review and she has been victimized by an online catfishing scheme that cost her dearly (financially and emotionally). She likes her booze, feels bloated and frumpy and down-on-her-luck and hence decides to come to this resort. She is extremely cynical and thinks it's mostly hogwash but then things start to turn around during her stay. She is practically the protagonist in the book. Thank you!!

Melissa is a fantastic actress and I cannot wait to unveil the rest of the cast. My expectation for this series just sky rocketed. For those who have read the novel: How's Nicole Kidman's character? Is it a good and juicy role? For the other eight "strangers", are they all women? Thanks. The character Masha is actually very central. Without giving away much: she's a Russian immigrant who fled the corporate world after a heart attack that left her briefly, clinically dead. She hence opened this health and wellness resort called Tranquillum House. She recruited her paramedic who saved her life, to work for/with her. It's an interesting role with comic/sinister undertones. There are a bunch of male characters too. Tony is a beer-bellied former football star. Lars is a gorgeous gay divorce lawyer. The most real characters are Heather and Napoleon and their daughter, Zoe, who have escaped to Tranquillum to endure the anniversary of the death of Zoe’s twin, Zach. Thanks Wiz. Sounds like a fun project. The casting will be key to the success, so I really hope Nicole can attract other big talents to join.

As I mentioned earlier, I was only mildly impressed by the book. While David E Kelley's writing can be phenomenal, I think the choice of director is going to be so vital too. I still don't know if they're going to have a dark comedy tone or a lighter fun tone or a completely sinister/serious drama pitch.

I completely agree, if they get a real kooky director then I will feel that they will steer this in a really fun direction. If they try to make it too Big Little Lies-ish, it will not work AT ALL.

I hope they go with Dark comedy, we need those and as we know Kidman excels at them.

^It gives me hope that they will by casting Melissa McCarthy, who as we all know usually if not always has comedic elements in her performances

Melissa McCarthy was on Ellen and she confirmed Little Marmaid. I've read it will start filming in April through the whole summer. Nothing on collaboration with Nicole though but I guess they could start filming Strangers after both The Northman (which is supposed to be shoot between March/May) and Little Mermaid. Who knows. Both The Expatriates/Strangers and Nicole acting participation looks a bit blurry to me.

I really hope she's doing "The Northman", but she might have only a small part in that and be done by April who knows
Melissa McCarthy is supposed to start shooting "The Little Mermaid" next month, they are in rehearsals at the moment

Maybe “production set to start" means that in April they will start with the pre production, casting, location etc...i'm glad that this suppose to mean NPS will be her next project after The Northman, probably in summer. If she shoot something really huge in fall, we will have an amazing 2021...

I just hope "Nine Perfect Strangers" isn't a long shoot, otherwise she will be booked until the end of the year

guys, I'm just worried like you. but maybe it means that she'll do The Northman for.. like a month, cuz there's no fighting scene for her, only court drama like Cersei in GoT, so 30-50 days is enough, and NPS will start in like late Apr., until when Melissa has to leave it for TLM? (70-90 days maybe?) let's hope these two projects are going on in harmony beautifully, and more juicy ones are coming. I endorse this optimism!
