Yep! It’s a masterpiece. One of those true gems that deserves all of the acclaim and accolades and appreciation. Even if a tiny few don’t get it or like it, you’re at the back!
All three main ladies are incredible. A trio of the screens finest actresses I think one reviewer wrote. Nicole is mesmerising, still till this day that train station scene where she describes how her mental health makes her feel is the most accurate description of depression I’ve ever felt.
Julianne Moore deserved to win for this but I am glad she was later rewarded.
The score, supporting cast. Everything a 💯

"If I were thinking clearly, Leonard, I would tell you that I wrestle alone, in the dark, in the deep dark, and that only I can know, only I can understand my own condition." Powerful, mesmerising, incredible scene.

I loooooved this movie when I was in middle and high school. I remember one time I stole a pack of cigarettes from my mother and chain smoked them while I watched the DVD.

The Hours got buried when miramax sold of its library to that investment firm. I don't think any studio owns the rights to miramaxs library. Such a shame though its a classic and holds up so well. I usually start my year by watching the hours, then proceeding to buy flowers myself, having ginger biscuits and eating a cake with blue frosting.

The Hours is getting reintroduced to a new gen thanks I think to the new opera adaptation. Alot of people who see this film are now feeling compelled to write about it and how special the film is and that by today's standards films like the hours are just not viable and won't even get a cinema release. Mini series adaptation? Maybe but I just can't see anybody topping the perfection of the original film and the performances. Nice article on the collider link

You know what. I love that nose. It changed and elevated how the performance was perceived. It allowed her to hide the Kidman and she became Woolf.

It allowed her to hide the Kidman and she became Woolf. exactly, it's not like everything is about the nose which was the media's narrative back then and we all are so offended of it. but the make-up is so unique and helpful to elevate her already nyukon ("you-put-your-soul-in") performance to even beyond that. and I'm not lying, I actually think the Woolf look is very beautiful in art and many other ways. I just luv the whole thing!!

The vanity fair article didn't dig deep enough. If they did they'd find out that Weinsten and Rudin had a nasty fight. This led to Harvey Weinstein actively campaigning against the hours favoring Chicago. Nicole winning was not a sure thing that year. Renee Zellwegger had the full Harvey might behind her that is why she won the SAG, Harvey always knew how to work the SAG.
Critics all backed Moore in far from heaven.

I don't even notice it in the film, I am just transported by her moving and amazing performance. You could tell she was totally immersed in that role, the start of the film is always emotional for me.
