Whilst Alot of people might categorize or point at Jim Curry's campy performance, however I believe and actually recognized even at a young age how Schumacher had intricately woven it into the film and it is peppered both in the louder and quieter scenes. Here we are in 2018 and somebody has written a thoughtful article about the queer subtext in Batman Forever that people at the time refused to acknowledge or even consider.i always wondered How did Joel Schumacher get away with it? Here is the concluding paragraph I encourage everyone who is interested to read the entire article. linkI love Batman Forever cause it gave me Nicole Kidman.

I've always loved Batman Forever, to be honest, and not just because of Nicole. I personally think it struck the best balance between campy superhero fun and action thriller. The Burton films were really enjoyable but had a little too much Burton in them, whereas the Nolan films just take themselves far too seriously (pun intended). Batman & Robin is one of the most enjoyable bad films ever, too! Uma Thurman is absolutely hysterical! Easily on par with Pfieffer and Ledger, just let down by a bad film.

Bump, in honour of Joel Schumacher and a lot of comments on social media saying maybe the film isn't as bad as they thought it was, compared to the sexless and perhaps overtly serious Nolan movies.

She clearly looks gorgeous and simply lights up every scene she's in but fun? Not so sure. Dr. Chase Meridian must be the most ridiculous character in the entirety of the Batman universe. Her whole existence is so preposterous. And the movie is so awful. The editing does her no favors and makes her seem like she arrived in town just to fuck Batman, all the while he has absolutely no interest because he’s actually after Robin. Oh and her psychological analyses are pure brilliance: “He’s a psychopath!” This movie lol. Don’t get we wrong, I love trashy, fun, intentional camp about as much as anyone, but this movie is too terrible even for that.

It seems we are on different wave lengths triflo when it comes to schumachers work and the definition of camp, fun and intentional.
So agree to disagree and be at peace.

Absolutely fine. I like Your thoughts and arguments. You got me thinking about it and I even watched Batman again after years:) So BIG appreciation for You. Thanks:)

"makes her seem like she arrived in town just to fuck Batman" Hahahaha 😂😂 I know:) But it really looks like that:) It's not even a matter of a script but use of editing and storytelling. I admit, it gave me huge laughs:)

Apparently Batman forever has a longer original cut before WB went Edwards scissors hands on it
Poor Kidman all her films with WB always end up being interfered with the studio,
Practical MAgic, Golden Compass, THe Invasion, Batman Forever,
even Birth she went and she begged New Line execs to leave Glazer alone to do his work.

I'm curious I remember reading an interview with Glazer after under the skin was released. They discussed how underrated was Birth and Glazer mentioned that the studio wanted to interfere and Kidman went and begged them to leave him alone and she fought to give him as much creative direction as possible.
