Oh it’ll be a fun trifle! If it was going to theaters I’d light prayer candles but I think it’ll be a nice light turn from her, and this is the kind of material the talented Mr. Murphy actually does well.

Zazz. It's actually a rather fun song. Big homage to Chicago's All That Jazz.

The full "Zazz" performance on Broadway
She's also part of a few group songs.

WOW! Now it all makes sense. Kidman must have been training for that number all this time. She has never had to do any sort of dance choreography before, 2DieFor does not count and in MR! she literally only had to "walk". But if Ryan is planning her to open her legs as Angie Schworer did, she better train hard because I would hate Nicole to look like Britney Spears on stage every time she does a dance sequence.

What i don’t get is how her role could be considered supporting with only one song. It should be a movie with four leading role. Streep, Kidman and the two other male actor who go to help the girl. All 4 actor supposed to be all together for the whole movie, correct? And who is the leading role? Streep or the girl of the Prom? I don’t get how the storytelling is structured...

Emma (the lesbian student) is the definite lead. She has 2 solo songs, 2 duet songs, and some choral songs which she is a big part of. Meryl Streep's role is considered lead, and she has 2 songs (excluding choral pieces). The Prom has 7 important characters (I'm not even counting Kerry Washington or Awkwafina here, and they'll have songs too. Maybe original songs?), so one song for a supporting character is not too bad. My biggest complaint is that James Corden's & Andrew Rannells's roles are bigger than Nicole's... but we'll see if Ryan Murphy has changed some things. It's totally possible considering the nature of their songs (especially Rannells's).

In terms of structure, I assume it'll be something like Hairspray, in which everyone gets to shine at some point.

Comparisons to Hairspray sounds wonderful because it was truly a joy to watch... but The Prom is Ryan Murphy. Guy doesn't understand the difference between kitsch and tackiness. Even Rob Marshall who sometimes is so heavy handed in directing but at least depandable would be a better choice. Mary Poppins at least had a wonderful ensemble of truly (and on same level) talented actors. I don't know if third collaboration with Meryl is worth of ONE song in a musical. Why they could not bring at least male actors on the same level as Meryl and Nicole? Where's Ewan McGregor and Colin Firth when they are needed? Don't want to insult anyone but the rest of the cast is truly awful. Washington is nice but average with mostly tv work. Akwafina - ok, very at "moment" but hardly a shining talent. Don't wanna even comment the rest. If Nicole truly choose that over The Dig (I know what You think about that project and Simon Stone- those "Simon who?" Comments in The Northman section are not very nice) which was a lead role, interesting director and collaboration with Ralph Fiennes for The Prom, than I don't know what to think. I am not complaining. I would love to be proven wrong when Prom will come out next year. I am just sharing my thoughts.

The Dig is currently under filming (it was gonna start filming in early September when Nicole was attached), The Prom is not gonna start filming until December. So it's unlikely that it was a scheduling conflict situation (we're talking about a girl who does two movies in the span of 10 weeks on a regular basis). Many of the cast of The Prom are filming something right now, so Nicole could do the same & start the training for The Prom later. Who knows what happened to her The Dig deal. Maybe she was too expensive. Maybe Netflix who took over the project thought she wasn't right for the part. Maybe they wanted a younger actress to play a 50-year-old character. Maybe she indeed chose The Prom over The Dig. Who knows? What we do know is that another producers came on board, then the lead actress got replaced. That's it. Maybe blaming Simon Stone for that is unfair. However, I think, judging Nicole's decision-making for that (the thing that possibly wasn't in her control) is even more unfair.

Where did I blame Simon Stone for anything? What's unfair? My opinion and thoughts? I doubt she got replaced. It's Netflix. They sign almost everything and everyone. Plus, She already have The Prom with Netflix. I truly doubt they would agree to put 52 year old actress in sexy role in a musical and replaced the samw actress in costume drama:) Maybe she just wanted to get prepared for one song in musical. I don't know. I am just a fan and I am just dissapointed. We can argue about what really happen but that doesn't change a thing that The Prom can be really awful.

Read it again. You say "Simon who?" is not nice, but then you judge Nicole's decision-making (even though we don't know it was her decision). You literally said: How is it not judging? By the way, I was bummed when Carey took over the role, too. I said so at that time. And I was feeling your disappointment & thought you were mistreated when you were fighting with other guys over the whole The Dig thing, even though it was merely by "liking" your post. Whether The Prom can be awful or not is irrelevant here. There is no reason to believe she chose The Prom over The Dig --- that is my point. So don't judge her for that.
