This is her third project she has signed on with Amazon, right? She has been working on The Expatriates for quite some time. Only last month we had news of My Lovely Wife also partnered with Amazon Studios and now she makes another acquisition. I read there was some sort of bidding war among some networks to get the rights for this new book and Amazon eventually stepped in.
ETA: Hold on, I have just seen the thread for A Good Marriage. I cannot keep track of these books.

I think four projects are currently bubbling in the Cauldron with Amazon.

Reed Morano? Her movies haven't done well... In fact, her latest one is supposedly the biggest flop of all time.

I get the feeling she's acquiring all of these not with the 100% determination that they will all go ahead, but to have a selection to choose from.

It's quite ironic to read some of your comments acting as if Kidman is the female Leanardo DiCaprio in terms of box office. How many back to back flops has Kidman had in her filmography?

I'm just happy Kidman is working, regardless of the medium.

No one is acting like that really. Some of us simply would like not to see Nicole in any floppy projects:) Possibly ever:) Working with questionably succesful/talented etc. directors is simply a concern for some of us. That's all.

Well, if no one would have given a chance to Kidman after all her commercial flops she would have become Millennium Films muse by now.

Well, if no one would have given a chance to Kidman after all her commercial flops she would have become Millennium Films muse by now. Yeah, but she did some great stuff before flops and she made some really smart decicions like going back to theater (I think she benefited from that move a lot) and producing own show. Not sure if Mrs. Morano proved herself but maybe her talent will fully bloom with Pretty Things. She never really "owned" the show before. Hope it will be succesfull for both of them.

Has anyone read this one yet? I'm really surprised that she's acting in this one. It's essentially about three young people (in their 20s/30s). I guess Nicole would be playing the one characters' mom, who is the fourth most prominent character.
I didn't really care for the book to be honest, though it did get better at the end. I just wasn't all that interested in the plot of a couple swindling an instagram influencer. It does get more interesting toward the end, like I said, but I'm mostly surprised Nicole would be interested in this story.

Haven't read it yet, but I thought it was getting good reviews. Will see if I can get my hands on this.
But I think she's just trying to get as much material as possible for all her production gigs with the companies that she us working with.

So I finished the book today. While not a masterpiece, it was a bloody good read.
Spoiler free synopsis:
Nina Ross, a young woman, is desperate to save her mother, Lily's life, but her degree in Art History doesn't really bring in the big money. So she ends up becoming a small time con-woman. She is paired up with Lachlan, a handsome Irish conman, in order to pay the mounting medical bills from her mother's cancer. Just when Nina thought that they were in the clear and the cancer was in remission, they get devastating news - her mother has end stage cancer and police are after Nina for a theft.
Nina and Lachlan decide to go for the big whale. A wealthy heiress, Vanessa, in Lake Tahoe. They plan and scheme and set off for Tahoe to run the biggest con of their lives. But this isn't the first time that Nina has been to Lake Tahoe, in fact, this isn't the first time that she has been to the majestic mansion, Stonehaven on the shores of Lake Tahoe. She isn't there just to land the big whale, she is there to settle some old scores.
Nina has an overlapping backstory with the rich family ie. the Lieblings. Vanessa Liebling, although seemingly wonderful and rich and content as seen on instagram – is actually lonely. But does she actually remember Nina from her childhood? Is she the victim? Or is she playing the actual heist? Suffice to say there are secrets exposed; double crosses; and a number of major plot twists throughout the novel.
Told from the alternating viewpoints of Nina and Vanessa you get inside the heads of these two protagonists. The third biggest and I'd say juiciest role is, that of Lachlan. Sleazy, slimy and absolutely loathsome.
Coming to the character Kidman could play: Lily - Nina's mother. The book starts off as her being sick. But well... *Spoiler Alert* Nina's mother was grifting her daughter all along. She was actually in remission and was lying to Nina because she didn't want her to move back to the East coast. She had brought Lachlan in on the grift, basically feeding Nina to the wolves and a life of crime.
(The other role was Vanessa's dead mom - Mrs Liebling. Only seen in flashbacks.)
My cast wishlist:
Nina Ross - she is half person-of-color/Latina. May be Mexican or Columbian. I actually thought of Zendaya. Or Nina Dobrev. Vanessa Liebling: anyone from Elle Fanning to Sophie Turner to Emma Roberts to Saoirse Ronan. It's a very layered character actually. Lachlan: I couldn't not think of Cillian Murphy. Michael Fassbender would be a dream. Aidan Turner, Domnhall Gleeson etc would be great too.
All in all, a LOT of potential in this book.
