I didn't notice or appreciate an LGBT theme or undercurrent suggestion.

So I finished the book today. While not a masterpiece, it was a bloody good read. Spoiler free synopsis: Nina Ross, a young woman, is desperate to save her mother, Lily's life, but her degree in Art History doesn't really bring in the big money. So she ends up become a small time con-woman. She is paired up with Lachlan, a handsome Irish conman, in order to pay the mounting medical bills from her mother's cancer. Just when Nina thought that they were in the clear and the cancer was in remission, they get devastating news - her mother has end stage cancer and police are after Nina for a theft. Nina and Lachlan decide to go for the big whale. A wealthy heiress, Vanessa, in Lake Tahoe. They plan and scheme and set off for Tahoe to run the biggest con of their lives. But this isn't the first time that Nina has been to Lake Tahoe, in fact, this isn't the first time that she has been to the majestic mansion, Stonehaven on the shores of Lake Tahoe. She isn't there just to land the big whale, she is there to settle some old scores. Nina has an overlapping backstory with the rich family ie the Lieblings. Vanessa Liebling, although everything seemingly wonderful and rich and content as on instagram – is actually lonely. Does she actually remember Nina from her childhood? Is she the victim? Or is she playing the actual heist?Suffice to say there are secrets exposed; double crosses; and a number of major plot twists throughout the novel. Told from the alternating viewpoints of Nina and Vanessa you get inside the heads of these two protagonists. The third biggest and I'd say juiciest role is, that of Lachlan. Sleazy, slimy and absolutely loathsome. Coming to the character Kidman could play: Lily - Nina's mother. The book starts off as her being sick. But well... *Spoiler Alert* Nina's mother was grifting her daughter. She was actually in remission and was lying to Nina because she didn't want her to move back to the East coast. She had brought Lachlan in on the grift, basically feeding Nina to the wolves and a life of crime. (The other role was Vanessa's dead mom - Mrs Liebling. Only seen in flashbacks.) My cast wishlist: Nina Ross - she is half person-of-color. May be Mexican or Columbian. I actually thought of Zendaya. Or Nina Dobrev. Vanessa Liebling: anyone from Elle Fanning to Sophie Turner to Emma Roberts to Soirse Ronan. It's a very layered character actually. Lachlan: I couldn't not think of Cillian Michael Fassbender would be a dream. Aidan Turner, Domnhall Gleeson etc would be great too. All in all, a LOT of potential in this book. Thanks for the great summary, WizLemon! Just one question, is there a LGBTQ+ theme in the book? Finished the book a few weeks back. And I totally agree Fassbender would be perfect for the male lead role. I had Scarlett Johannson in mind whole reading Nina Ross. As for Vanessa, I kind of imagined Rose Byrne. Kidman would be excellent as Nina’s mother, but i think she’s mode likely to ask for a bigger role — maybe even the lead one? We’ll see. The story’s pretty exciting and well plotted, so as long as the director and the cast is great, it should be good. Loved the influencer bits in particular. They were acidic, but on point!

I don't know that a story about an instagram influencer could work with actors in their 40s and 50s playing the characters. I think it has to be young people, like in their 20s or maybe early 30s. I don't see how Nicole could play anyone but the mother.

Hopefully, it’ll be someone like Fanning and Zendaya, but don't be surprised if they age the roles and make it, say, Kidman and Watts. Kidman prefers lead roles, and who can blame her?

I thinking she is doing it for her mom. this character got something familiar with Janelle Ann. dat's why this project moves so fast, and she got so emotional in the theatre in the first place. Do you mean this about the play Things I Know to be True, kaniska?

Do you mean this about the play Things I Know to be True, kaniska? oh gosh, thanks Brittany!! I got it wrong, this one is about Pretty Things. and yes, I guess that's why she picked up Things I Know to be True that fast. she is doing the nurse mother role for Janelle Ann, in my opinion. pray for her.. so Things I Know to be True may even start the shooting before Pretty Things. Things I Know to be True is one that I'm looking forward to most, so I hope it happens soon-ish.

Do you happen to know if it's on Amazon Kindle, or even better - if the play can be seen on YouTube or somewhere else? Many thanks in advance

The playbook was on Amazon when the news of Kidman adapting it came out. I loved reading Rabbit Hole and I am really tempted to get this one too.
