Excellent piece from indiewire( cant beleive I'm saying that!) they've gotten a majority of the cast and production crew together to reminisce about the film and how groundbreaking it was for its time. must read link

I know!
studio wanted Meg, Director wanted Patricia, they ended up with Nicole because she begged!
I loved the how nervous they were with the test screening scores and how everytime they got low scores(30%) no matter what they did and they all thought they had a stinker in their hands, so the took it to cannes loL! risk paid off big time! Kidman also said that after they crucified her in Far & Away her spirirt couldn't handle another hit job lol.
poor thing I can imagine how she felt when she did the "walk of shame" red carpet for GRave of Monaco.

Here is the best piece for me - Nicole told us how she felt about that outrageous Oscars snub:
- Stewart: Nicole did so much with just her eyes in the film. The scene where Joaquin is watching her do the weather and is fantasizing; she’s saying ‘James, James, James’ and they zoom in on her — she was hypnotic. I really thought she deserved an Academy Award, but she didn’t even get nominated.
- Kidman: I was disappointed about that. But I did get a fantastic telegram from Sean Penn saying, ‘You were robbed.’ Isn’t that sweet? And I won the Golden Globe, which was lovely.

Great read! I think they owe A LOT more to Nicole's PHENOMENAL performance than what they let on in the interviews - I was surprised actually at how muted Gus's 'praise' of Nicole's performance was in this..! The fact they talked more about Tom Cruise being there than Nicole's actual performance, I-

Great read! I think they owe A LOT more to Nicole's PHENOMENAL performance then what they let on in the interviews - I was surprised actually at how muted Gus's 'praise' of Nicole's performance was in this..! The fact they talked more about Tom Cruise being there than Nicole's actual performance, I- I noticed that too, I also was bothered about how they shoe horned cruise into it, Gus didnt praise Kidman that much or at all if I'm not mistaken! he just had this off cut comment about how is surprised that Kidman looks back on it as a highlight which is weird and then he mentions he now has only good memories. Something seems off. Kidman was a pro throwing praise and giving credit to everybody else but her. It is quite obvious now that the film fed off Kidman's talent and star power, it was her performance that bound the film and it was her name that gave them entry to Cannes. Van sant seems almost resentful. or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Amazon finally delivered Criterion "To Die for" , they kept a Director approved sticker with Gus van sants signature. It looks spectacular, hope they do one for Birth.
