That interview is so fun... She giggled as a flirting teenager girl from the high school when she meets her crush lol. 😂 I love when she goes to red carpet without Keith. The Ron Howard Sneak interview is funny too.

The Ron Howard Sneak interview is funny too. and I truly believe that she actually watched and enjoyed Arrival. so she's being polite while talking to one of her hero about what she loves about him.

Jan Chapman who is one of the producer of The Things I know to be True is also producer of both Jennifer Kent and Shannon Murphy movies. Personally I hope more for Murphy. She have great sense of humour and handle weird/absurd/heartbreaking family scenes in Babyteeth incredibly very well. Kent is very good but Murphy truly moved me with her mature style of filmmaking. Plus, she feels more adequate for that project.

Here are my super brief thoughts on the projects that I've seen:
The Undoing (2020) Susanne Bier : Meh to be honest. I don't think it was *bad*, but I don't think she was bringing anything out of Nicole that Nicole couldn't do herself and I found the whole material to be lacking. I think the quick cuts that Bier uses don't really work with her. Big Little lies (2019) Andrea Arnold: I would've loved to see Arnold's cut. I think there was definitely potential here that just unfourtantely didn't make it through. Arnold usually has incredibly long tonal cuts that would be a dream with Nicole. Destroyer (2018) Karyn Kusama: I've only seen this movie once and I didn't particularly feel any way about it. I'm probably due for a rewatch and maybe a reasessment. Top of the Lake (2017) Jane Campion: Thought it was OK. Didn't really feel it. The Beguiled (2017) Sofia Coppola: Again, thought it was fine. I don't know, didn't feel particularly fulfilling to me. Strangerland (2015) Kim Farrant: I thought this was movie was terrible in a really boring way. Wish there was something more to it because the plot is interesting but it goes nowhere. Bewitched (2005) Nora Ephron: To be completely honest, I like this movie a lot. I think it's a fairly interesting concept and Nicole is genuinely funny! There seems to be a huge studio hand in this project, would love to have seen both Ephron and Kidman untethered (though that would never happen in 2005). The Portrait of a Lady (1996) Jane Campion: I like Kidman's performance in this, but I'm still not sure how I feel about the movie as a whole. In my opinion, this is probably her strongest work in a movie by a female director. The content and depth of the character is there, it's obvious Campion is trying to fulfill a vision, and there's definitely some sort of prestige goal. It's definitely due for a rewatch, especially finding out how weirdly into the character Nicole got.

Female directors I would love for Nicole to work with (loosely ranked by how much):
Lynne Ramsey (judged Cannes together so.... they know each other!) Jennifer Kent (they were together on the set of Dogville! there's an entryway!) Alice Winocour (lets manifest) Marielle Heller Tamara Jenkins (the possibility for a great grounding role) Mira Nair Lisa Cholodenko (she's an awards magnet and I do really like her movies) Ana Lily Amirpour Kelly Reichardt Debra Granik
And yes, I agree, Gerwig would be a little too saccharine for my tastes too. The demographic that Gerwig writes for isn't the type of content that is interesting to see Nicole in.

Thanks Vee I'm pretty much of the same opinion except for Destroyer and Portrait of a lady.
But I think we all can agree that we have yet to see Nicole complete both a home run film and performance with a woman at the dir helm.
Zazz my ranking was chronological not on quality.

Especially on Strangerland, where the plot goes off the rails like nobody's business. Except that I thought The Undoing was a fab little Hitchcockian thriller, and Betwitched looked great, but Farrel was annoying as hell. If Jim Carrey had been in it, might have made for a funnier and more satisfying experience. I do agree about The Portrait of a Lady. I always fall asleep watching it, but there's something special about it. I do need to finish it one day.
