I truly hope Nicole never works with neither Allen nor Polanski. I don't even know why people risk the public lashings with Allen, he does one good film out of every five and his productions won't even get distribution in the US anymore. Those who wanna die on that hill are just dumb (and we mention Winslet always, but c'mon, everyone knew since the mid90s, Blanchett just turned a blind eye because she wanted a lead Oscar, the Chalamet mess was lmao).
Polanski has directed some amazing work (Chinatown is one of my favorite films), but if he wanted a career, he should've thought twice before being a disgusting pedophile. As a future teacher, there's no scum lower to me than those who hurt children. I hope they both rot. Stay away from them, Nic.
I love lots of the other names suggested here (although I don't know if Scorsese will write a substantial female role again, and this is coming from a fan of his work jajaja). Fincher is a dream of mine. PTA and Aronofsky would be others. Ari Aster in the horror front. ALMODÓVARRRRRRRRR, do this one for a fellow Spaniard. I don't know how Lynne Ramsay hasn't happened yet. I personally am not a fan of Haneke's work, I've never been able to connect with it, but if she's passionate about it and working with Huppert, I'd be there for it. Todd Haynes I'd DIE for. Villeneuve, too. Gerwig is another name that I'd love to see in her filmography, as well as Larrain (so excited for Stewart). Obviously Park Chan Wook and Wong Kar-wai, and Bong Joon-ho and Kogonada, and Hirokazu Koreeda, so many cool asian directors I'd love to see work with her. Campion's very hit and miss but I could see her working with Nicole again, Coppola not so much, but I'd love a repeat with Baumbach. Wes Anderson just for fun. Every time Lanthimos announces a project I think is there a role for her??? And Eggers, I'm dying to see TN, but also for them to become collaborators. Celine Sciamma would be another dream, I love her work, so naturalistic and beautiful. The Coens would be fun, too, but McDormand had that conversation with her husband about female roles, so IDK jajaja. No Tarantino for me. But Ang Lee or Guadagnino would be great choices. I'd love for her to repeat with Glazer. Cronenberg is hit or miss with my (love The Fly, hate Crash and back and forth with the rest of projects), but Fennell is someone I could see working with Nicole in the future. Barry Jenkins has the Lulu Wang connection, but I don't know if he's interested in a film about a white woman (I don't know if this is true, I've only seen Moonlight and IBSCT but he strikes me as in the line of Peele, where they want to explore Black stories)? It's a pitty he didn't do Elle with Verhoeven, but he does the kind of film she loves jajajaja. I'd also love it if she worked with Zeller, since I really liked the Father.
So many interesting choices. I used to track how months passed since she announced projects, to sort of be able to expect when something new would come. But she's slowed down significantly since she does so much TV and with COVID. She's down to one or two per year, so when do you think she'll announce a project next?

Ildikó Enyedi Andrei Zvyagintsev Cristian Mungiu Bong Joon ho Paolo Sorentino or Asghar Farhadi or Alfonso Cuarón the 5th spot is really killing me.. great topic but painful! I spent like 15 minutes thinking about putting Ildiko Enyedu on my list:) Can't say enough about how much I loved On Body and Soul. Mungiu is also great. He was in jury with Nicole back in Cannes Film Festival 2013. Totally fell in love with romanian cinema in recent years. Great filmmaking.

Was great choices, anyone Triflo mentioned I would be happy with! I really would love to work with Glazer again. Glazer collaboration would be really something. Thanks, paperboy88:)

Pedro Claire Denis does lynch and Ramsay count as European Pavel Pawlikowski Lars von Trier (he is a mad man and kidman inspires him again please he needs a boost) Ruben Östlund Another cool list! This board has great taste. Lynch is super American. So The Square is good? So true. The Square is truly unique, surprising with unexpected turns. Nicole would fit incredibly well in Ruben world. He's got truly admirable filmography. Play? Turist? De Ofrivilliga? All truly great. In terms of scandinavian directors (God, I am truly putting my movie dreams now:)) I would love to see Nicole making a movie with Joachim Trier or Thomas Vinterberg. Joachim Trier is a bigger dream. Love his movies. Also, not scandinavian because his finnish - Aki Kaurismaki. Nuri Bilge Ceylan is also another "impossible" collaboration which I would die to see happening.

I think Nicole would really fit in Bong Joon-ho movie. I have a feeling Park Chan Wook would also like to explore Nicole acting skills more in another project. I like to think Stoker was just a prelude to their another collaboration - lead role, totally ridiculous character in bloody, sexy ect:) story and mixed genres. Not losing hope but I think they could create some incredible movies together. He always spoke so highly of her. I love Koreeda. All his movies. Incredible filmmaker. Constanly great work. Nicole would shine in his style. She always shines in autheurs visions. I can totally see Nicole in Emerald Fennell hands. In Barry Jenkins too but as You said he's more concentrated in telling black stories. Need to add Sarah Polley to my "wish list" Along with Koreeda. Love dreaming about these collaborations:) Todd Haynes collaboration simply needs to HAPPEN. He did wonders for Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchett. He worked with Kate Winslet. Nicole is the same league. This is so obvious collaboration:) Like? COME ON, Todd:)

I was also thinking about David Cronenberg. He created such a crazy character for Julianne Moore in Maps to the Stars. He recently announced new project with Viggo Mortensen (would love to see him again with Nicole) but he choose much younger actresses: Kristen Stewart and Lea Seydoux nwhich is great. I like both of them, especially Lea. French actresses is truly another topic for me:) Love so many of them. As I said earlier: SO MANY interesting projects are being announced almost every day. Desperately waiting for Nicole being at least a small part in on of them.

Vittenberg and Polley would be great! Now that McDormand is said to have dropped the lead in Women Talking and gone for a smaller part, who knows! I'd love to see her in it. I think sometimes Nicole's appearance plays against her in that directors go for younger women when it comes to starlet roles, but she's seen as too statuesque for "normal woman" roles, but she's played "normal" great before, so why not. Todd Haynes would be a serve, along with Ramsay it's someone I just think it needs to happen at some point.

I love this thread! New wave: 1 Ari Aster 2 Barry Jenkins 3 Emerald Fennell 4 Rose Glass 5 Trey Edward Shults Legends: 1 David Lynch 2 Martin Scorsese 3 Quentin Tarantino 4 David Fincher 5 David Cronenberg 6 Todd Haynes Europe: 1 Céline Sciamma 2 Claire Denis 3 Pedro Almodovar 4 Yorgos Lanthimos (again) 5 Luca Guadagnino Without any order of preference. OMG Berry Jenkins, yass! What a great choice. Btw, did you guys know that he is the husband of Lulu Wang? I had no idea. So now actually there might be a chance for a collaboration to happen (considering Kidman and Wang have hit it off). I also love the idea of Almodovar and Kidman working together. In fact, I'm going to watch his collaboration with Swinton tonight. I'm intrigued. Anyways, love your list! But fyi, Tarantino will never happen - I distinctly remember seeing him observe Kidman with disgust one Oscar ceremony. It just looked like he hated her guts (which is weird because he's went on record to profess his love of Dogville). Anyway, great list! thanks

Safe, Far From Haven (OMG), and even his latest Dark Waters are such great films. I have a feeling he and Kidman would make wonders together (he has a gay sensibility).

Hi All, As you may have noticed, I really enjoyed posting on here, and I love to read your opinions! This time, I'd love to know what directors would you like Nicole to work with in the upcoming years? Personally, I would pay good money to see her star in European movies! For me, Nicole's work with Von Trier, Daldry and Amenabar was some of her best work. And even last year, you could tell that she and Bier really connected. So here's my European list: 1. Pedro Almovodar
2. Paolo Sorentino
3. Roman Polanski
4. Mike Leigh or Ken Loach
5. Michael Haneke
Honorable mentions: Paul Verhoeven (Elle was soo good),
And in America, I'd probably have to go with this bunch: 1. Martin Scorsese 2. David Fincher 3. Wes Anderson (OMG, pleaeeeeeeeease, even Paltrow worked with this guy; why doesn't he hire Nicole?) 4. Joel and Ethan Cohen 5. Ang Lee Some honorable mentions: Spielberg (West Side Story looks amazing, but I haven't loved his films since Tintin ten years ago), Woody Allen (probably too old at this point), Tim Burton (his quality has kind of gone to shit with Alice and after, with the exception of Frankenweenie), Paul Thomas Anderson (a bit hit and miss for me, but still loved Phantom Thread and Boogie Nights). I know this is technically 10 but I couldn't resist lol And you? Who would you pick? She almost worked with Wes Anderson. She turned down the female lead role in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Then Cate Blanchett replaced her. I would love Nicole in an Anderson movie, even in a small role. Ha. Didn't know that. I'm glad she passed on the role, the movie was not his best.

I want to add that, after seeing The Father, it would be perfection to see Nicole in a Florian Zeller movie. Maybe the adaptation of his piece, The Mother, originally starring Isabelle Huppert. www.nytimes.com/2019/03/11/theater/review-the-mother-isabelle-huppert.htmlAfter all, despite having the opportunity, in his adaptations he is not recalling the original actors, for The Father he chose Hopkins rather than Langella, and for The Son he is still opting for an all-star cast. Nicole might be a sensible choice for The Mother. I would love that. The Father was the best movie of all year imo. Fantastic script, great direction. The Mother sounds like a dream come true!

I'm sure Nicole and Barry must be friendly with each other, since she seems to be having a great working relationship with Lulu.
