I've watched the invitation and at first I was bothered by how cheap everything looked their budget must have been quite miniscule, but as I continued I became immersed into the film's atmosphere, Kusama managed to create/ capture this mysterious dark dread around the LA Hollywood Hills.
The creep factor kept increasing with each turn of the screw by the director especially after introducing the Cult aspect.
Actors were a mixed bag but the leads all gave very strong performances especially logan and Tammy.
It ended conveniently for my tastes perhaps the tension died out, but the parting shot of the red glowing Lanterns did leave me with a feeling of dark menace and perhaps a little fear.
Overall, if Kusama manages to take what she did here and perhaps amplify and build a more threatening cult around Kidman I'll be very pleased.

Let's see who signs up for the role of the cult leader. I'm surprised a larger studio didn't show interest in this project. Does it mean anything regarding the subject matter or the screenplay?

This isn't studio backed, they're financing it independently and if it's any good a studio will purchase the rights. If it's terrible it'll probably be picked up by Streaming service.

Vulture has a direct comment from Kusama, if she manages to bring an LA noir vibe to the film, I'll be very happy. linkOh god, it’s ‘an LA trilogy’... How pompous. Zero expectations from this one, unless they surprise us with someone like Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp to play opposite her. We’ll totally know if the script is any good once they announce a Ralph Phiennes-level star, or Joseph Phiennes-level star, or a virtual unknown. Fingers crossed it’s the former.

Its best everybody has very low expectations for this project, me personally I'm glad she's doing it because
a) She is sticking to her pledge of working with female directors regularly b) its a lead role c) its in the thriller/horror genre my favourite d) its about cults which Kidman has a personal connection too
However, Karyn Kusama still hasnt made a film that feels complete and wholly satisfactory, all her films whilst emotionally genuine, clever and weird are flawed to some extent.

Exactly. This would be her first lead role in quite sometime. Last time she had a leading role in a movie was in Queen of the Desert.

It really did seem rather cheap and TV movie-esque, mostly towards the beginning .... like a set that couldn't be filled enough because they didn't have the money/like a sparse porn set. I did think it was really creepy though, and shocking. I think there is high potential, though, for Destroyer. Though I'll keep my expectations low.

Agreed bosendorfer, I would say the production value felt more like an amateur student film. But despite all that she managed to create something very creepy and the atmosphere was very effective.
She has potential, Jennifer's Body looked gorgeous.
Hopefully she can make something from this, I'm definitely rooting for Karyn.

And honestly Joseph deserves far more credit than he gets. He was outstanding in The Handmaids Tale.

Rocket science is bringing Destroyer to American Film Market to try and sell its rights. They have a pretty full slate and there are no additional cast details. link

Destroyer getting a China release! that's fantastic news. It also sold on Kidman's name alone!
And the script!
