those cunts (sorry about the language) just won't recognize her, as a worker bee of the east-coast-indie-circle.
and there's always seats for Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Toni Collette.
cuz they're ugly enough to count as an indie fellow. but not beauty like Nic. again, sorry, if this is too mean.

I think I get what you're saying, this year especially they have ignored both Boy Erased and Destroyer. Perhaps Kidman is too big of a name for them.

They are like SAG before they finally gave Nicole nomination for The Hours (!) but since then they learned their lesson:) 2018 would be a right time for Independent Spirit Awards. Even Blanchett is not TOO big for them and we all know that Nicole's achievements in independent filmmaking is on pair with Julianne Moore/Michelle Williams.

She's too big, and has always generated some resentment in indie circles for really being the first big Hollywood A-lister to jump between studio productions and indies with regularity. You could argue that she kickstarted that approach and a lot of big female stars have followed her lead (Anna Hathaway for example).
But there was a time Samantha Morton (after losing Fur to Nicole) spoke out against Kidman coming to the indie world and 'stealing' parts meant for actresses like her, and I think a lot of the indie snobs nodded in agreement. Morton and Kidman sort of made up and praised each other in public afterwards, but I think Morton expressed a lot of the frustration, and maybe envy that Kidman gets there. They feel she should have stayed in her lane with the Sandra Bullocks and Julia Roberts of the world in Hollywood studio fare, and just has an unfair advantage by being able to get into almost any indie project that will have her.
It's almost surprising the Gotham Awards gave her a tribute last year, but everyone was on the bandwagon of acknowledging Kidman in 2017, so I guess they wanted a little piece of that as well.

So true. Media had big problem with her transition towards indie/weird movies. It was noticeable with Birth. The truth is she did indies like To die for and challenging movies like Eyes Wide Shut before but after Moulin Rouge/The Hours and divorce people went crazy. She was too big for indies and not profitable enough for big projects. I think her rollercoster choices back than were misunderstood. She was so somewhat in very strange position. It was not as easy like for Cate Blanchett/Julianne Moore who were/are both cherished for their contribution to indies. Nicole was not. Thankfully that changed a bit. I say this because I am big fan of hers but she didn't have an easy way. I also was surprised with Gotham Awards last year especially with strange relationship with critics from NY:)

Not sure if this review was shared here: Nicole Kidman is Terrific Nicole Kidman’s performance is very good. Her eyes shoot daggers, her tired mannerisms believably hint at the character’s traumatic history and vast experience. The actress has never shied away from roles that require her to display extreme vulnerability or go through straight up embarrassment. The role of Detective Bell is no exception. When the script calls for a heartbreak, she delivers. When she needs to showcase technical proficiency and her physical training during a gunfight, she pulls it off. As usual, Kidman gives it her all and steals the whole show from start to finish. Destroyer is a solid piece of detective crime drama film-making and at the center of it is a highly impressive Nicole Kidman performance. The film successfully depicts the gruesome looks and feel of the criminal underworld. Most of the film’s heart gets murdered underneath brutal plot twists, endless swearing, disturbing imagery and actions. Hardly surprised at ISA not nominating her. They've always shown bias to certain actors. What was surprising was seeing them nominate Glenn Close, which is actually her FIRST nomination from them!

I really can't wait to see this film.
