Just finished watching Rabbit Hole for the umpteenth time, and sitting here in tears. My god, our Nic just blows me away in this. Phenomenal handling of a role that could've gone one way too far or the other. She NAILS it. So many scenes she just leaves you laughing or crying. <3
Sorry for this random appreciation thread ;P

Rabbit Hole is one of her films that I revise in parts or segments not as a whole. And I agree with you, let's say under another actress ( I'm not naming) Alot of what is depicted on screen could have ended up as cheese or scenery chewing but she just brings raw authenticity to the role that immediately remedies any doubts about the screenplay or direction.
Can I also say Aaron Eckhart is a good match. I wish theyd work together again.

One of my favorites from her. She gave depth and brilliantly interpreted a role that could’ve easily slipped solely into melodrama.
And I agree with Mr. Dedlock - Aaron Eckhart was a wonderful acting partner for her. I hope she works with him again.

So true, Curdey. Also, how underrated! I feel like in another year, it could have been a bigger film in the awards circuit.
Also, the whole parallel universes concept and the comic book/story within a story arc is so beautifully done by JCM.

But I was so grateful it came at a time when her career was hanging by a thread and we were in some desolate wasteland waiting for something to happen to bring her back to the forefront.

I love this one. faith or science? when everything collapses, which one can help us? Nicole chooses science, Aaron chooses faith, but they're both wrong. they have to deal the fact that they've lost the child forever. making friend with "the killer", or having an affair won't work. Parallel universe or Heaven, even he still living in there or somewhere, it's not the reality. the rabbit hole, it's not religion, not sci-fi, just the circle of sadness and they fail to get out. but love and forgiveness always helps. eventually, they've crossed all those stages of grief. deep and beautiful. I agree with all of this. Personally I thought the film handled a lot of very sensitive grief themes beautifully without ever going for cheap sentiments, as is usually the case with American movies. I certainly don't see what's safe about a role like Becca, who basically shuts her loved ones out and lashes out at strangers. It was almost a follow up to Margot at the Wedding, which is one of my absolute favourite performances from her.

I truly love this film, it's one of the films I would proudly show to my friends who don't really watch the darker staff Kidman usually makes. And every time I do people love it. And they admire Nicole more. I agree it more accessible, but yet it's a very delicate subject and the balance between dark comedy and drama is brilliant and effortless. And what makes it really special the fact that she managed to get an Oscar nomination, when the film was hardly screened. It's not her best work, but she was very powerful. But most of the credit goes to Mitchell's direction. You could see the passion involved in this.

It's a great film and Nicole is superb. I also recommend this one to people who want a powerful drama and leading lady, rather than the darker projects and if they appreciate it, i say to go from here to Margot at the Wedding!

One of my favorite Kidman's performance. Aaron Eckhart was extremely great too. Hope they will make a movie together again.

Would be wonderful to see Nicole again in such a vivid role in small, touching drama like Rabbit Hole. The movie was a real miracle for Nic back than after not so great years. Still, she only can thanks to herselt for making it and that's good. Beautiful script, great choice of director and ambiguous, beautiful lead role. I lover her work in recent years but I would love to see her in a small drama in a lead role, even "one woman show" directed by another autheur who will understand Nicole talent and celebrate her age and looks rather than manipulating with it. Rabbit Hole was like that - so refreshing in many ways. Not only character wise and in terms of storytelling but also technically:) No wigs, red colour, almost no make up.
