For me the big IF here is how she will sound. Ball's real voice was quite deep and Kidman will not only have to mimic that but add on the American accent as well. Sorking loves a long and complex dialogue so...
By the way, I have realised that this is a Kidman-Sorking reunion since they worked together for Malice.

I feel that anything can happen, and in the end the difference - as always - will be in the quality of the movie, and the approach of it. I don't know, I usually prefer a less "imitation" kind of acting in those biopics, I can remember Michelle Williams playing Marilyn or even Zellweger - I remember when the project was confirmed, I dare to find anyone that believed in that movie about Garland doing well -, if she did it and won acollades for it, why not Nicole? I understand the "worries" about Nicole not looking like Lucile, but in the end is not "only" about that, it's just a part of it. But if this fails yes Kidman will be blamed and hated even more, as always. It looks like so risky, yes. I think the main point is that this is not going to destroy Nicoles's career, right? Not anymore, I hope so. I didn't follow the repercussions when Blanchett was considered for the project but I don't remember anything close to what is happening now. Kidman, once again, will have to prove to the world that she can act? It's insane.

Debra Messing is retweeting any commentary on the film concerning her, claiming the role in some cases. She is totally ridiculous and unprofessional. Coward. She can just write something instead retweeting the choir of her fans, chuckling. Ridiculous.

It's already added to her IMDB filmography under title: lucy and Desi/rumored. 🤞🤣
Please make this happen! I want to see her leading a major film, opposite Javier 😍😍

Ok I've been busy at the office but was quite overjoyed when I read the news. I remember getting mighty jealous when I heard Cate was doing this movie, so yes I'm glad Kidman is in the running to take over.
I haven't paid attention to the hate.
Anybody who says Kidman isn't funny Kidman cannot play unlikeable characters Kidman cannot ....
Doesn't know Nicole Kidman and is clueless.
It would be such a shame to miss out an interesting character piece because of a bunch of rabble.
Zellweger was in a much worse situation when they had cast her as judy garland and she showed all the naysayers and won an Oscar.
I think kidman can excel here, I wasn't for the Grace film, but this was feels different.

People always underestimated Kidman acting skills for comedy. I understand why, she rarely did comedys in her career. But I love that side of her. Even in Just go with it was hilarious. I'm a huge fan of Bewitched, I love her so much in there. I laugh so hard every time I watch that movie. I hope she could show to everyone how amazing she would be. My greatest regret on her path is that she never appeared in a Woody Allen movie. She could shock the world with a good comedy character well written and good developed. The biggest issue here is the resemblance and the accent. That's all.

I seem to be in the minority when it comes to this project. I really don't want her to do it. I think she's too high in the public consciousness and Lucille Ball is too iconic of a persona for this movie to NOT be harshly criticized. This really could be a Watts as Diana or GOM level disaster.
Let's take a quick look at Kidman's biopic/remake record: - The Hours (2002): Obviously a big hit, great for her career, etc. - The Stepford Wives (2004): This movie is a mess, but she still also faced a significant amount of criticism. I have the polarizing opinion that this movie is actually pretty good and funny, but since it's such an iconic property, people really attacked it. - Bewitched (2005): SO MUCH vitrol towards Kidman for this one. Obviously, if you're going to make anything about a show as dear to people's heart as this (or I Love Lucy), they're going to way over criticize, especially Kidman's performance (which I think it sweet!). - Fur (2006): Too weird to ever catch on anywhere and critically panned iirc. I think it's an interesting project. - Hemingway & Gellhorn (2012): A slightly overbearing project but Kidman is praised for her work here. Important to note that Gellhorn IS NOT a TV persona and people generally do not have any idea of what she sounds and looks like. Kidman could really have played this however she wanted, as long as she had the essence of Gellhorn. - The Railway Man (2013): Kidman is generally praised for playing another character that is a real person but not a public persona. - Grace of Monaco (2014): A DISASTER. Kidman could have given the best performance of her life and it still wouldn't have mattered because people would have it out for her here. Almost every negative review seems to attack her personal. People do not want to see her as figures that were dear to them! That's not her relationship with the public! - Queen of the Desert (2015): A flop but everyone thought Kidman's performance was okay. Again, Gertrude Bell doesn't have a public persona. - Lion (2016): Nice minor role that everyone liked because they had no frame of reference or prior relationship to the material. - Bombshell (2019): I mean.... it exists. Truly a neutral movie for her career.
People really don't like Kidman playing characters/people that are near and dear to them. I don't find Sorkin to be a particularly interesting director (although I do like his dialogue) and I believe that this movie will most likely be a drama about the dysfunctional marriage which is not the fun roles Sorkin usually writes. Cate dropping out of it isn't really a good sign. In general, this just feels like a very uphill battle for very little reward, both artistically and in the case of publicity.
On the other hand, I do like the meta aspect of the roles she's been taking recently.

If Debra Messy thinks she can get a lead role in a movie in 2020s, she should get a reality check. I laughed out loud, jajajaja!! this!! So did I!! Ahaha Why does she not produce her own stuff? Kidman had to do so.

youtu.be/xQmIPi0LQjIActually Lucille Ball’s life was quite tragic and complicated. It will be a great role if the script is Good. I personally think this film will be more dramatic than comedic.

Oh, I've done a lot of research into Lucille Ball. I had to a write a ten page paper on her in high school lol. I just worry at Sorkin's ability to write something nuanced for such a tragic life, and even if the movie is dramatic, people are still going to come at Kidman hard.

This is not a remake of I Love Lucy. It's a behind the scenes like My Week with Marilyn or Feud: Bette and Joan.
Why everybody are sure that Nicole is not a good impersonator? In the past she made a choice of making biopics in her way. Now she can work with an acting coach and do a perfect Lucille Ball impression, but at the same time she can portray a dramatic, unhappy, sad diva.
