I hesitate to compare this role to Bewitched or Grace of Monaco, those being the real life roles (only sort of in Bewitched's case) that she has played that are very well known by the public like Lucille is, because those scripts were straight up awful. I don't have a lot of confidence in Sorkin as a director, but surely the script will be leaps and bounds better (even though he's not one of my favourite writers either).
The thing I'm most concerned about is Nicole mastering both the voice and accent. She has done great accent work in the past, so it's just a matter of her really working hard on it.
It really is disappointing to see the extreme negative reactions on twitter. It feels like we are back in her pre-2017 era. And so many people bringing up her face, too. It's gross. I hope she pulls it off and surprises everyone.

This is not a remake of I Love Lucy. It's a behind the scenes like My Week with Marilyn or Feud: Bette and Joan. Why everybody are sure that Nicole is not a good impersonator? In the past she made a choice of making biopics in her way. Now she can work with an acting coach and do a perfect Lucille Ball impression, but at the same time she can portray a dramatic, unhappy, sad diva. Agree Holden. The concept of this project is amazing. It'a week of Lucille Ball, who go through a personal tragedy behind the set, and then record one of the funniest mask of America's television. It really could be a second Oscar. She has to manage thousands of facial expressions, she has to jump in to territory she never explored. I don't blindly trust of Nicole after Grace of Monaco, sorry. That movie proves that she tends to underestimate the study and the research of the character sometimes. She should take a break for the rest of the year and training all the day to be ready for a movie like this. She has Paris Memories in spring and the production of Expatriates. I hope she learned the lesson with Grace. I surely trust Sorkin thousands more than Olivier Dahan. She must to be directed very good this time. And yes, someone tell her to stop filling her face for a few months. I'm so excited since I heard the news guys. I really hope she will be confirmed. I prefer so much news like this than another supporting character of 10 minutes or a rich woman with a hidden secret in a Moriarty TV adaption. It could be one of the funniest and crazy path on her career we could ever assist. I really missed this joint for one of her projects... I'm checking all day her Instagram profile for a confirm. Debra Missing is in my black book since today BTW. It's a pity because I loved will and grace.

I think one of the reasons why Nic's Grace Kelly didn't work (or they couldn't write a compelling script about Grace Kelly's life in the first place) is because Kelly didn't exactly have a personality. She's obviously an icon, but she's famous for being gorgeous in some classic movies and marrying a prince. I'm sure she was a lovely person to be around, but there's not much substance to her as a character that a dramatic actor such as Nic can grapple and excel. In the end, her playing Kelly was not exactly a risk, other than those predictable jokes about her face.
While Nic is indeed an unexpected choice as Lucille Ball, she had a distinctive persona & her life in front of/behind the curtains had more urgency than Kelly's imho. I'm assuming this movie will deal with when the couple was pressured by the FBI and all the scrutiny around that time, based on this description ("Lucy and Desi face a crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage") in an article. It could be something a great actor can really study and shine. I'm scared a little bit that it might fail tbh, but I'm also enormously excited and glad she's still willing to take a huge risk.

It won't be hard to make Nicole look like Lucille, since her look was achieved primarily using makeup. And anybody who says Nicole can't be funny just doesn't know what they're talking about.
But I am worried about the accent O.o

Also LMAO to Debra Messy! Even if they hadn't cast Nicole, they wouldn't have cast DEBRA!

Agreeing with most of what you guys have already mentioned here (both negative and positive). Personally speaking, this is a prestigious movie project with a "risky" leading role, therefore I would love for Nicole to take a chance. As a viewer and a fan, I cannot be more excited.
However, since this is all unconfirmed, I am bracing myself for the very possibility that she might not be in it after all...

Just the mere thought of having Kidman considered again for prestigious projects is exciting! When was the last time she starred as a lead in a Hollywood film? The Secret in Their Eyes remake?

If she dropped out Paris Memories for this? I think the movie had another birth thanks to covid. Amazon just check their old project and picked up the ones set all inside a studio. It's probably a movie filmed into a only ambient, as Ma Rainy or Birdman. it's possible the are planning to shoot sooner than we think. That's why we didn't hear anything about PM yet...?

It's all up in the air right now. But at the moment I agree, this project has priority over the others.

If by Hollywood you mean commercial, I think you could argue that she's the lead for The Beguiled (it's an ensemble piece I guess). She's supporting in TSITE, co-lead in the The Family Fang. If by Hollywood you just mean Hollywood movie, she's definitely the lead in Destroyer which came out in 2018, so long!

If by Hollywood you just mean Hollywood movie, she's definitely the lead in Destroyer which came out in 2018, so long! I think what Perro meant was a mainstream decent budget production with high profile team behind it, Destroyer was more a small indie film, the beguiled might qualify but as you mentioned her role wasnt really lead it was more of an ensemble, This film is a lead role, written and directed by Academy Award Winner Aaron Sorkin and co starring Academy Award winner Javier Bardem ( who Ive longed to see act opposite Kidman but who I thought Penelope cruz would never allow him but that is another story lol), amazon studios also have alot of money and the pressure of box office is off cause it'll go straight to streaming. the pedigree of this project is high! and Kidman will forget about everything else ie scraping around to find actors and directors, she can for once just focus on the acting and the role and nothing else. Also I'm not worried about the accent because Kidman delivers when it comes to period pieces, she finds a balance in films due to filming being shorter and more controlled. I though she held her accent well enough in the prom, I mean it was believable.

I totally, absolutely, unequivocally DON'T want Nicole to do this. I never go to Twitter to check reactions to Nicole projects (because we all know that platform is a cesspit of hatred and diatribe), but from the summary you guys have given, it is fair to say this project is doomed. Back out, now, Nicole!
