this is huge, no, is the biggest one! I hope you demanding biatches know it!! there's only Bette Davis (at 68) Lillian Gish(90) Barbara Stanwyck(79) Elizabeth Taylor(61) Barbra Streisand(58) Meryl Streep(54) Shirley MacLaine(78) Jane Fonda(76) Diane Keaton(71) Julie Andrews(86) 10 women got it before, in AFI's history. here we have our girl at the almost same age with Meryl, as the first OZ actor ever, the first female actor in her generation ever, to receive it. braaaaaaavoooooooo~~~ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFI_Life_Achievement_Award

I agree, Mr Dedlock let's make a new topic. *happy tears rolling down* Initial thoughts: 1) Odd year for such a HUGE honor, no? She didn't have a huge release. 2) Who are going to be some of the sure-shot presenters? Baz? Naomi Watts? May be Russel Crowe or Hugh Jackman? Laura Dern or Reese Witherspoon? Some of the female directors like Coppola or Jane Campion? Even Meryl Streep?

There's going to be a lot of discourse about other 'more deserving' actors like Glenn Close, Bill Murray, Helen Mirren, Angela Bassett, Judi Dench, Jeff Bridges, Robert Duvall, Michael Caine, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cate Winslet/Blanchett etc
But fuck that noise.
This is humongous. And so absolutely well-deserved. And a labor of love and devotion.

Judy Foster and Julia Roberts are her closest rivals in the generation imho, and maybe Sandra Bullock after Gravity. if there're at least 3-4 solo leading or co-leading with only another one (not half-hour villain) films more in their career hit 200M$+ globally, Cate Blanchett and Julianne Moore would be too. but yes, there're respectable senior madams. like Maggie Smith, Vanessa Redgrave, Helen Mirren, Faye Dunaway, Glenn Close, Mia Farrow, Sigourney Weaver. not that sure about Glenda Jackson, Judi Dench, Angela Bassett, cuz the commercial value. especially to the minorities, it's just a historical tragedy, yet we have Viola Davis booked a seat already. and if Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Isabelle Adjani did a couple more English-dialogue ones, there'll be their name to consider too.

Omg I woke up to the the AFI news, my jaw dropped. This is such a big one and to be honest I didn't think would happen. Omg I've been having a great week and things just keep looking better.
Here I was yesterday whining about her losing the Oscar to Jessica Chastain and now we have a legendary AFI award.
She got it even before her ex husband! Just look at the names of previous recipients.
I'm dancing, her body of work is so thoroughly deserving.

And I'm going to shut down any backlash and noise, this actor has remained relevant over five decades, constantly producing art and performance after performance. Fighting against an industry who had not made it easy for her with the typecasting, sexisim, ageism and toxicity in general. Above all she survived and is still thriving.
