Well... I am doubting that:) It's not because of Nicole, but the source material and not very high level of literature which The Undoing certainly is. Let's not forget that names (Jenkins, Fincher, Chan-Wook) You're recalling are powerhouses itself and they doesn't want be associated with not very promising projects even with Nicole and Kelley involment. I agree Nicole have had remarkable last year but still she have to proof herself as protagonist in Destroyer (it's been a while since she was leading actress in a movie) and as a movie star with questionable and odd choice with Aquaman. I couldn't disagree more. Not to be rude by the way. What could Nicole Kidman possibly need to prove now? I am really sorry I have different and probably more critical opinion. I still would like to see her being a lead in a prestigious and important movie. Lion was great but still it was supporting role far from her most daring roles and BBL was incredible success for her even if it was an ensemble cast but still... it was a tv. I'm sorry but I want to see her in big cinematic event with great leading role:) On Aquaman... ok, it's James Wan, it's a big project but she's not playing a superhero or even a villain which could be actually really incredible for actress in her age. She will playing be mother of the main character. Nothing exciting about that:) She will probably in for 15-20 minutes looking good and nothing more. What Wonder Woman did for Robin Wright? What Ninja Tunes did for Laura Linney? Interesting what "promising great returns" can she get from Aquaman:) I think she's being closer to another Razzie nomination that ever;) Sorry but I would love to be mistaken.

Not sure if Nicole could get any of these prestigious names. Personally I would love to see Nicole collaborating again and again with Park-Chan Wook. I'm sure they didn't say the last word on Stoker. But... the source material doesn't sound like a good piece of literature. It's more Before I go to sleep than even Gone Girl or Girl on the train so I am not sure if she can get any autheur for that. I'd rather see her doing more mature, significant and simply good film adaptation in vein of The Hours, The Piano Teacher or Olive Kitteridge. Hmm, I agree here. Not really on the prestigious names part but more on the fact that the source material seems kind of shitty. The reviews I've read + synopsis make it sound lackluster and rather basic. "Beach read" material. Littered with plotholes. Hmmm, maybe I'll read the book to see for myself, but I can't help feeling it's a watered down, cheap imitation of Gone Girl. I'm scared this will end up like Before I Go To Sleep. triflo : I think something more mature, meatier .... with more depth, like Olive Kitteridge would also be awesome! This is what I want from her. Exactly:) And please Poison Regal, you don't have to put multiple answers - yours and other members:) I just have different opinion.

What greeat returns, seriously? Well, being in her first big budget studio film since Austraila and exposed to a billion people who vaguely know who she is (12-19 year old boys and young straight men up to age 30) in cinemas around the world. From a strictly career perspective, in an exposure and money making sense, Aquaman and Wonder Woman offers are the best she’s had in a very long time. And I’m sure her role will be bigger than Wright’s which ended up being more of a cameo in the end. And a Razzie is fine if you get a whole new fanbase and make the studio some money. It means more studio projects which when you’re 50 is rare and amazing. She’s lucky she got it in the first place. Very few actresses do. So basically you’re already mistaken.

What do you guys think about John Crowley? She's doing The Goldfinch with him and he does have an affiliation with HBO ie. True Detective - S2 (not really a feather in the cap but similar genre of suspense thriller, I guess). I like him and I love love Brooklyn, but he’s good for Goldfinch not a thriller me thinks.

I want Kidman to get Donnie Darko's director Richard Kelly out of retirement. Richard Kelly! I remember being genuinely scared while watching The Box. I know critics say it's not a good movie but it just worked for me. Btw Kidman could easily replace Diaz in it and elevate the material. So yeah I too think he's an underappreciated director.

I already wrote, ''not to be rude'' as i disagreed with you. I don't really have expectations for Nicole nowadays with those type roles, she's always made interesting career choices, some roles play off and some may not, but ultimately it's subjective. TV is nothing to scoff at, if it was lifetime or something unimportant than i could understand that statement, BLL was a big event, look at all of the acclaim it's received, and especially Nicole. Nicole, Reese, Laura and co have set a whole new standard for TV. I mean Meryl Streep wants a piece of that now! Plus Nicole had some very gifted actresses up against her and she beat them all, BLL was more than just TV for me. Tbh your points with Nicole would make more sense to me if it was 2015. Being in a big budget studio film where a whole new generation will see Nicole in action isn't anything to be critical about. No she's not the main star, but a film like that on Nicole's filmography is great exposure and something different for her (i know Batman, i mean different nowadays). Even if it doesn't go too well, she's not the main star, not her fault. The way the water down villains nowadays in fantasy films to make them more 'complex' or likable bores me anyway so that wouldn't be that incredible. More importantly, Nicole is playing more than just the main characters mother!

Omg I know! I love the box, yes it was critically panned but it connected with me and the film needed stronger lead actors but I thought Diaz was very good in it probably one of her stronger performances. I loved the atmosphere Kelly built it had a real sense of dread without beating you over the head . Kelly has disappeared since "the box" flopped and "the undoing" would make for an ideal chance to seem him bring his unique perspective to a different medium and perhaps give him more creative freedom.

Yes, I am completely mistaken, even delusional probably:) Thanks for letting me know:) I really don't why You think the exact same move didn't work for many different actresses will actually work for Nicole. That doesn't make sense at all:) Sorry but playing a sort of big name cameo in a superhero movie is not prestigious by any standards:) If Nicole at age of 50 would be playing an Aquaman or main villain as Cate Blanchett did in Thor that would be something:) First blockbuster since Australia? Putting that way is even more embarrasing since she was the lead in high scale, epic movie in 2008 and now in 2018 she's doing a cameo in superhero movie. After working with Valle, Campion, Lanthimos and Coppola in one year? Maybe that's the difference between our opinions. Maybe You prefer to see Nicole in blockbusters and I rather see her exploring work with great filmmakers. Also, she's not lucky for doing that:) There is a longtime tendency to put big/prestigious/acknowledge names in big budget movies, especially with actresses in 40's and 50's. Laura Linney in Turtles, Robin Wright in Wonder Woman, Kim Basinger in Grey, Kate Winslet and Naomi Watts in Divergent, Julianne Moore in Hunger Games etc. ALL OF THEM did that with either almost zero effect on their careers or occasional embarresment:) Razzie nomination is on the way, but by Your standards it's ok. Even better:)

It was certainly big event and highly acclaimed show but still I would like to see BLL as a beggining of something big coming. I want her to have her Elle/Blue Jasmine moment. Especially, something like Elle with Isabelle Huppert. I'll try to explain: For years Nicole was doing incredible, disisive, often misunderstood movies like Birth, Dogville or Strangerland but she was hardly recognised fot these movies but somehow over the years these movies become fan and cinephiles favourites. Huppert is doing that for decades and You would think she will never be recognised by mainstream audiences and awards academies but she did that. What is more important she did her way. She wasn't even trying to comform:) I just hope that one Nicole will be recognised THAT way. I like many people here describe Nicole being in a league of her own. I love that. That's way I want her be rewarded in most fabulous way for complicated, odd, even unlikable character in really good, profound, important movie from autheur - something completely unexpected. Not for movies/roles like Lion or BLL which are both incredible and I like them very much.

Even better:) Not everything needs to be a ‘masterpiece’. Superhero films have been good (although rarely) and will continue to be good and draw global audiences. I for one enjoyed Iron Man a lot more than the ultra boring Campion film with Nicole you mentioned. And I thought Black Panther had more cinematic value than The Beguilled, which in my opinion deserves its 6 score on imdb. I don’t ‘prefer’ to see Kidman in blockbusters, as I skip most of these movies, but once in a decade like to see her stretch some other muscles and try something entertaining! Out of 100 films on her bio, must we have ‘brave’ and ‘challenging’ all the time? What was brave about Strangerland? Genius? Nothing. They were poorly written films masking as art and are already forgotten even by the ppl who made them. Just because something is independant, doesn’t make it good. And not all studio films are bad. Wouldnt you love for her to have a succesful blockbuster/popcorn film under her belt too after her recent triumphs? Oh and please stop on the size of the role... Brando had a cameo in one of the greatest superhero of all times, Superman, and the film is iconic. Paltrow’s small role in Iron Man is the best thing she’s done since Shakespeare in Love. And Robin Wright - she’s fallen low yo say -I can’t name a single movie she’s been in aside from Wonder Woman. It most certainly hasn’t set her back.

Not for movies/roles like Lion or BLL which are both incredible and I like them very much. Okay i appreciate your points and yes there are a lot of films that don't get recognized by the Oscars or as such in the mainstream. To be fair though, Nicole before BLL did deserve more credit, but she was named checked a lot, lots of gifted talented directors wanted and have worked with her. She's not really that underrated. Some one like Christina Ricci deserves more credit. Although it's not the same genre, or a win, Nicole already has had Blue Jasmine recognition, The Others, Moulin Rouge, To Die For and there is of course her own Oscar win. It's not like she hasn't won! Nicole had a few years where, a lot of her performances, such as Margot at the Wedding, Strangerland, Birth were all deserving of higher honours, but Nicole isn't really a big box office draw post her Oscar win. The projects she's chosen, are more risky and are indies. She's not the Jennifer Aniston type. Over the years some of the roles payed off in retrospect, with critics last year looking into Nicole's back work and i hope they continue to do so. After last year, BLL, the start with Lion and Nicole's incredible Cannes honour, i say watch this space. I am more confident in a second Oscar win. Just at the right time. Also with Nicole, she's always going to take on challenging roles, whether they are popular in the mainstream or just with indie audiences. I respect that. With film consumption now, Netflix, illegal downloading, and superhero genres clogging up the box office, i'm being realistic when i say Nicole is 50, and hasn't been a big box office draw in North America for some time (right or wrong), and to me i'm not focused on that. I think with the right script and director maybe Nicole will have a big hit, i would love that, but if she doesn't, i don't care. I would far rather Nicole make smaller films, that will be appreciated by critics and art fans than some typical Jennifer Aniston box office crap that people all flock to see, but end up forgetting. I mean look at last year for instance, Sacred Deer, although not everyone's cup of tea, it was very acclaimed, and will be appreciated, spoke about and is artistic to the film industry. Where as the general public were flocking to see Bad Moms. The latter might have made more at the box office, but what was more acclaimed? And what will be remembered more in film history? I rest my case.

When I first read the new topic on this board "the undoing" I was like finally we have an announcement of a new project in a leading role with a high profile director. Oh well. Thinking about it again and what others said about the project I hope this doesn't happen, she had BLL and now season 2, I rather see her in films plzzzz and we need a big director on board. After Sofia and Yorgos I wanna see her collaborate with someone that level, preferably in a leading role.

It's better to star in a successful TV miniseries with a juicy lead role than in a mediocre film in a supporting role. "The Undoing" sounds interesting but they need to find the right director (I suggested John Hillcoat). I'm also anticipating a new project with an established auteur like Todd Haynes, Darren Aronofsky or James Gray.

Yea agree it's better than starring in a medicore film, but why would she start in a medicore film again, shouldn't she just wait for a big role with in a prestigious collaboration, she has like 5 projects lined up for a release and a Tv show season 2, I don't want Nicole to have like 3 tv shows in a row, she is a movie star.
