www.tidewaternews.com/2019/01/02/best-movies-of-2018/10) ‘Destroyer’ Nicole Kidman. That is all I need to say. Just look at her performances this year… from a big-haired preacher’s wife in “Boy Erased,” to an abused Monterey housewife/mother in “Big Little Lies,” to this hardened detective with serious baggage in “Destroyer,” Nicole has used 2018 to prove her talent as a character actor with a dynamic acting range. “Destroyer” not only displays one of Kidman’s best performances, allowing her to completely transform for a role, but it also is one of the best crime thrillers of the year. With its twist-filled script and the incredible chemistry between Kidman and Sebastian Stan, it should be no secret why this is in my top 10. I also appreciate it was directed by a female director, Karyn Kusama. Kidman has pledged to star in at least one female directed movie every 18 months to give more women the opportunity to get their movies made. In the last 2.5 years, she has worked with five female directors … so you see how that pledge is going.

these hit pieces are common during awards season, they're basically trying to hurt her chances they're paid for propaganda and Kidman is usually a big target because of her profile. But what an wretched disgraceful write up, coming from insecure men who's masculinity is being threatened and instead choose to debase, degrade and defile her work. OH and surprise surprise he's an NY Based critics, who they all might as well join a "I hate Nicole Kidman fanclub", burn the witch.

To be honest, I read it twice. I was surprised by the nastiness in it.

Still it's painful to read. Amy Adams and Christian Bale are celebrated for their work in Vice which is not so well received movie after all. Don't understand that.

What's the point of writing that? It's not like Destroyer is some big movie or something that is being universally praised.

I refuse to read such negativity, and there's been so much love and praise heaped towards our lady for this film anyway, so his opinion is irrelevant to me...

www.refinery29.com/en-us/2019/01/220595/nicole-kidman-destroyer-makeup-costume-transformation#slide-3costume designer Audrey Fisher talks details about Kidman's transformation.... really interesting staff: Physical transformations have always held sway over awards season. Gary Oldman’s portrayal of Winston Churchill, which required a four-hour ritual of extensive makeup, prosthetics, and a wig made of baby hairs and angora, earned him the Oscar for Best Actor last year. Christian Bale, who gained 40 pounds and shaved his head to play Dick Cheney in Vice, is the favourite to win Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical at the Golden Globes this Sunday. Still, there’s something about a beautiful woman modifying her looks for a role that seems especially appealing. Kidman’s fellow 2003 nominee, Salma Hayek, had to adopt a unibrow to play Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. In 2004, Charlize Theron took home the golden statue for her performance as serial Aileen Wuornos in Monster. Fast-forward 15 years, and not much has changed. Theron is nominated for a Golden Globe for Tully, which required her to gain 50 pounds to play a mother of three, as is Kidman, whose turn in Karyn Kusama’s noir detective film, Destroyer, represents her most ambitious transformation to date. To play Erin Bell, an L.A. cop battling trauma and thirsting for revenge, Kidman changed virtually everything about her appearance, including donning a shapeless, colorless wig, and a bland uniform of wrinkled, seemingly smelly T-shirts and jeans.

This mudslinging close to the Oscars is the legacy of Harvey Weinstein. He championed this sort of negative campaigning to malign possible contenders. Absolutely unwarranted.
