I would never take any of Kidmam's duds backs, her failures and her successes is what makes her rollercoaster of a career so thrilling and fascinating.
but here is a potential good topic for a thread, what is her most disappointing dud? you know, the one that actually stung so bad after it released because of great expectations?
hmm now that is something that will need some thought!

Not because of her involvement at the time but Nine hurt like a motherf-. Lately, I was probably most invested in Boy Erased and it was a pitty that it didn't catch on. And I knew it would be bad but I spent 8 months reading the fucking Goldfinch so is a travesty I still haven't seen it because of the reviews and length.

Not a dud (at least to me) but my biggest disappointment was with the Golden Compass, I know that wasn't a flop worldwide, only underperformed in the US, but I wanted badly to see Nicole Kidman playing Mrs Coulter in the Trilogy! that was such an iconic character and Nicole played her exquisitely...

Australia was the biggest disappointment for me. Huge budget, long shoot, great premise, great cast, one of my favourite directors, and it was a mess. Plus, Nicole rarely looked worse.

God, i wish that movie didn't exist.😂 Alongside secret in their eyes, trespass, genius, how to talk to girls at parties and a few other duds I dont mind Bewitched of Stepford Wives - great production values. And The Goldfinch wasn't good, but did not deserve a 20% score. The cinematography was gorgeous. I LOVE HTTTGAP!!! Lol, such a mess. But glad someone likes it:)

Lol, such a mess. But glad someone likes it:) I don't understand how it's a mess - I thought it was so much fun, and I went with 2 others to the cinema (non-Nicole fanatics) and they both loved it too. I get it's not to everyone's taste, but that's art for you - it's subjective.

I get it's not to everyone's taste, but that's art for you - it's subjective. Well, the premise was good and the original short story. But the movie is way too long, the script all over the place; trying to cram all these ideas in. It wants badly to be a cult classic, but it gets more boring as it goes along. To make a sci-fi comedy with a budget that can only buy you a lot of latex, you better make it funny! But it's not funny. And, as much as I have to say it, Nicole's performance was abysmal. Well, her role was a joke with nothing to do, but her half-cockney and half Australian accent really didn't work. Especially not in comparison to Blanchett's similar role in Manifesto, which came around the same time. And her monologue about 10 abortions was simply grating, one of her most embarrassing moments on screen, if you ask me. Shouty, attention-seeking, totally in the wrong resister to evoke any sort of sympathy... You liked it and that's great, but there's a reason why the movie was dead in the water when it comes to box office, completely panned by the critics, and everyone just wants to forget about it 🤷🏻♂️ Sorry, but surely you can see it did not do well at all, right?

A recent project I was massively disappointed with has to be The Queen of the Desert. I remember being super hyped when I found out she was working with Herzog. The idea of her committing to go to Morocco for such a long production. Riding camels and just entering the world of such an important filmmaker, it was just a dream. I read one of the books the movie was based on and I truly found the story of Gertrude fascinating. At the end, Kidman was totally miscast for the part of young Gertrude, it was actually embarrassing seeing her playing a teenager, and the screenplay was a mess.
I am happy to know though that Kidman regards this is as one of the best experiences in her filmography.

hahaha personally i don't like queen of the desert but i don't hate it either. it's not a "bad" movie, nor embarrassing like grace of Monaco but its often boring and flat. no really bad performances but again a wasted opportunity. i don't know how the director and screenwriter made their choices or at least based on what.

Same here, didn't hate it; just thought it needed more tension and dramatising, or conflict if you will. She kinda coasts through everything, and you don't really learn much about her, or the Arab world. Maybe a 5/10? Definitely better than GOM, Secret in their Eyes and some of the others.

I took a day to think about it and I must say it was a toss up between strangerland and before i go to sleep,
I was so looking forward to these two films, especially after the humiliating bombing of GOM, I really thought these two projects would give me performances and films I would relish but unfortunately both I found terrible. I'd give the worst edge to B4IG2S because
I tried so hard to like it and her performance but it I just couldn't. Strangerland has atleast somethings going for it, but I really was so hyped for it, I had all these grand visions of an outback existential sexuality crisis with Kidman and Hugo weaving but instead it was very subdued dull affair. so it was a double dose of "extreme" disappointment amidist the shadow of Grave of Monaco.

I agree with this. The only film I always wish can disappear from Kidman's filmography is GENIUS. I think it is the worst performance of Kidman.

Yes, Strangerland was a big misfire; an exercise in how not to write a script lol. Before I Go To Sleep was a bit better. I loved all the close-ups and the Hitchcockian vibes. But it definitely wasn't good.

What a mess Grandage did with that movie. Jesus, 2014-2016 were catastrophic years. I wish I could delete them from her filmography.
