the scene at the opera alone is perfection... for God sake, to die for, eyes wide shut, cold mountain, birth, paperboy, destroyer, Nicole is supposed to have 10 Oscar nominations and she's at 4!!!

Destroyer honestly as much as I agree with all of you about her being snubbed several times, i have to admit that putting dead calm, Margot at the wedding and dogville on that list is a little too utopian, don't get me wrong, her performance is very good in those 3 movies but her not getting any nods for them didn't make a shocking impact on the people, it's not like to die for, cold mountain, birth, paperboy...

Lets be honest unless you are Meryl Streep....its extremely hard to get an Oscar nomination. Its not just about the performance. So many things have to align for it to happen. So many great actors miss nominations for some of their greatest performances. She has 4 and that's no mean feat, exactly the same number as Helen Mirren, Geoffrey Rush and Annette Bening ( who hasn't even won yet ). Yes I agree she probably deserved a couple more but the academy really makes her work for it.

I rewatched this masterpiece "again" recently, and I have to say it just gets better after every re-watch, although it's a very heavy duty, packed with emotions and layers of human psyche, yet it's sophisticated, timeless and so original and it's just a Nicole Kidman film, it's like Kidman in her purest form, visually stunning, beautifully constructed, breathtaking. I remember the director said he never thought Kidman can do this, with her star power at the time, he never thought he would cast someone like her, yet to me personally this is the most powerful Nicole Kidman performance, and easily one of the most beautiful performances I've seen. Her portrayal of Anna was a masterclass in acting... I still can't believe how poorly was this film received, it's pure art in its most beautiful shape.
Forgot to mention: that dining scene with Lauren gets me every time.just BRILLIANT.

She was just amazing. I rewatched as well one moth ago. "are you a little lier, are you... Are you a little lier?" "Yes" "Yes? It that what you said?" "Yes."
Her vocal tone in that scene... Is just wow.
BTW. There was a time in Hollywood where they were great to put wings on actresses. I think all these people ritired. It s the only explanation. Lol

Lol Her vocal tone was just aching , in complete pain wanting him to say "no, I'm not lying, how dare you take him away from me" Just amazing, I hope we can get something on that level again. Destroyer for me was close but the prosthetics and time shifts got in the way.

It's amazing how this film keeps getting random admiration, different theories and more curious views every now and then when it's been almost 20 years, for a tiny little film that was received with harshly mixed reviews..only proves how misunderstood it was, hopefully more people see it, cause its a treasure. Nicole Kidman delivered one of her greatest performances in an eerie reincarnation drama film.avclub.com/nicole-kidman-delivered-one-of-her-greatest-performance-1844014912

This movie is refusing to die thanks to the most powerful performance Kidman ever done. With another actress it would disappeared logn time ago.
