Now with all of the well deserved praise and acclaim Nicole has received for BLL i thought i would create a thread for Birth. I have recommended Birth to a few people i chat to online and a few friends. I will never stop raving about this powerful film! So criminally overlooked at the Oscars. I think a few of us on here rate it as Nicole's finest performance. I hope some of you agree with me about the thread

it has reached GUY Lodge's Kidmanworldcup semi finals and probably on its way to the finals. I'm stunned!! Does that mean Birth is no longer considered underrated?

It used to be second to To Die For. But it has grown a lot in me. The way she plays the devastated nuances of that role is remarkable.

I can't believe what's happening, I can't believe I'm in the same world I was in before.
There must have been some rift that has transported us into a parallel universe.

Right!? It is indeed amazing to see some Kidman love from others who are not users of this forum.
Btw, Cameron Bailey, TIFF artistic director, is also a fan.

The writer of Carol is also cheering for both Birth and To Die For

Birth has always been in the top two for me, in terms of her performances.

Probably the only one who will say this, but not a fan. Gloriously shot and acted, but centered around a very weak script. This coming from a huge Under the Skin fan. I wish Nicole starred in that.

You are not the only one - I don't get either the film or the her near-unanimous number-one favorite ever performance, either.

The scene at the end where she goes into the sea kills me. Such an amazing and powerful film.

The scene at the end where she goes into the sea kills me. Such an amazing and powerful film. This beach scene and the opera scenes both seem to be a homage to Joan Crawford in Humoresque- one of the best performances of the 40's!

Indeed!^ And like Joan, Nicole was overlooked for an Oscar nom!
I am loving the Birth love. I hope more and more people see what a truly powerful and astonishing film it is! I could watch it now!

I think Birth has an amazing legacy, actually, epecially online where many think it's one of Nicole's finest moments. Humoresque on the other hand is one of the great many forgotten Crawford films which should make an argument for her being one of the greatest actresses of all time.
