Hi, after a break I’m back. Of course I’ve continued supporting our goddess Kidman! Out of the die hard fan theories and also some haters comments (come on she’s not that much of a target all the best gals get it!) I think constructively is the way, not negativity and sometimes hate.
I thought I’d post in my thread Birth, I recently posted about some of the resurgence it’s been receiving again elsewhere.
I took a break due to health issues and also I find nowadays online can be too much from super fans (everything is underrated, not enough love, I mean a multi Oscar nominated actor and winner, all those GG! The 2017 Cannes Prize! It’s not like she’s won an Oscar and ended up like what’s her name from Romy and Michele! And also vice versa an artist with Grammys, some artists have dozens and dozens and yet somehow not appreciated enough! I’m sorry I found it off putting constructively) and of course haters online all the birds peck at the best fruit. I can ignore them (99%) of the time!
Bombshell, I really liked. Not one I’d rush to watch again, but Kidman had some fine juicy scenes. There was only so much they could allow. Constructively, I thought Margot Robbie was good but not that great, I don’t want to tear down another actress in order to big my favourite up. I like to celebrate women (well except a couple in recent months, KW!) I was expected to see Nicole for 2 mins but she’s got some good juicy scenes.
Okay, The Undoing, has only been added to purchase this week on UK Prime, I’m on episode 3, I’ll just write for now how incredible Kidman looks, the close ups of her eyes, the expressions. Are you and Lena Headey looking to remake Joan Crawford’s Sudden Fear!? Haha! Also the wardrobe. The show could go anywhere!
I’m too very anxious since it was announced The Northman! I’ve checked and checked and now we have that Insta post from Kidman and a few previous interviews phew! Time means nothing to me in a prestigious art film. Look at The Beguiled, from filming you wouldn’t have expected that much of Kidman!
I’ll check back on the Birth replies ASAP. Hope everyone is keeping safe.

Also where’s the criterion rerelease for Birth? Or better yet The Others or To Die For!

Also where’s the criterion rerelease for Birth? Or better yet The Others or To Die For! sadly they only did three Kidman's film, Moulin Rouge!, Australia, Stoker. too little and too late. I know but when you look at all the films from decades ago and dare I say less prestigious than To Die For, it’s not really a reason. Perhaps we all need to email them or Insta them! 😆 I just did some double checking, Tootsie, more recently Cher’s Moonstruck, Detour, and er Ghostworld! I think it’s nowhere near too late for Kidman. Especially To Die For and The Others!

This movie is refusing to die thanks to the most powerful performance Kidman ever done. With another actress it would disappeared logn time ago. I firmly believe that too.

This movie is refusing to die thanks to the most powerful performance Kidman ever done. With another actress it would disappeared logn time ago. Exactly. I like that "tendency" of some Nicole movies to have that reedeming power. Misunderstood, overlooked, ignored for many different reasons, sometimes poorly received but still finding it place in history and being discovered again in next years/decades. Birth is especially interesting but I would also put Practical Magic in that category. I sort of hope The Paperboy will fall to that category one day. Loved that movie besides Nicole performance of course. Also Destroyer needs more attention and it's waiting to be fully discovered, be seen and be appreaciated more. Any other suggestions/candidates for Nicole "reedeming" movies?

I stand by that Margot at the Wedding is a great film. One of and Baumbach's & Kidman's best.

I think with “Birth,” despite that Golden Globe nomination, some small praise and die hard fan appreciation, it was still dismissed and misunderstood. Still it refuses to die. You know like some of the best albums “The Dreaming” and “Erotica.” “Impossible Princess is getting there.
Birth was simply misunderstood. And after all these resurgences, it’s testament to what a masterpiece it is, or rather retrospective masterpiece. Not many films get the resurgence or popularity with their fans or GP interest and some of those do big business. I can’t think of any other film like Birth, except decades and decades and decades ago, Joan Crawford’s “Rain,” it was misunderstood, unfairly bashed by critics (different time of course. It was all box office, contract players were all movie stars even BD!) but over time it received so much resurgence and is better remembered than some of JC’s biggest hits of that decade and in my experience I’d call it one of her most known sway from the obvious classics. And even better remembered than some actresses’ work who won and received multiple Oscar nominations, cough Norma Shearer.
I think Practical Magic, is so popular with people today, and it’s in a unique position where I bet if you were to tell the majority it’s history they would be flabbergasted. It’s seen as an actual modern “classic”.
One film of Kidman’s I would love to see have a resurgence or at least gain a bigger following is “Strangerland”. I know it’s not for all, even here but her performance is astonishing. It’s one of those films I would call “performance based” where it’s all in the performance that you appreciate and are in awe.
Grace of Monaco. Well that got a SAG, which was generous. I’d like to forget that one still! “Trespass” hmm, great cast, just too underwhelming. I can’t think of many. Naturally as time goes on, so do films so only even some of the greatest lose part of the audience to the latest thing. At least with Nicole and Tilda Swinton, it’s all about the art of portraying a character.
Aldo The Paperboy is fine, Kidman nearly got an Oscar. Let’s not forget some of these films are commercial films.

I stand by that Margot at the Wedding is a great film. One of and Baumbach's & Kidman's best. Agreed, it’s in my top 10. It’s indie, not commercial. Has a following. So I’d never expect it to be “The Others” or even “Rabbit Hole.” Margot was unlikable, but that’s never bothered me. It’s human nature. I do wish it had a bigger push and was more well known but again it’s not commercial.

I stand by that Margot at the Wedding is a great film. One of and Baumbach's & Kidman's best. Margot is a very good, underappreciated, little gem of a movie - great performances across the board 😀 --- reviled when it first came out (like birth) but in time will come to be appreciated.. Margot in my opinion was one of her most well characterized roles - credit to Baumbach Am I the only one who misses this period in her filmography?

Welcome back Poison, so glad to hear from you, I was wondering where did you dissappear too.
I hope your health has improved and you are in a better place.
Kidman in the undoing reminded me alot 9f Crawfords later star vehicles. The whole show built around Nicole kidman and she carries everything wonderfully. I'm sure you'll enjoy the show, it has kidman at her starriest.

Great performance by the trio of leads! Shame that the movie didn’t do that well. It deserved more. I loved Marriage Story, probably his best movie, check it out if you haven’t.
