She posted a shoutout to Kylie Minogue and nothing yet on BLL emmy nominations. she's thinking why didn't I slap dat bitch harder, since only one of us can be nominated everytime we worked together, and worry about The Prom. The way I'm dreading the promo for that film when they ask Nicole "what's it like working with Meryl!" over and over... I hope Murphy did his job and gave Nic the opportunity to shine.

I hope Murphy did his job and gave Nic the opportunity to shine. nicol always shine when she works with Meryl, the Oscar for the hours and let's not forget the GG nomination for BLL season 2. Well, it's Nicole jajaja it's not that she can't be great if Meryl is around, it's that the media generally doesn't care about anyone else besides Meryl when she's in a project because they're too busy sucking up to her. Even if BLL was a huuuge success in season 1, they still talked about Meryl being cast as if she was making Nicole and Reese a favor, and not the other way around (I'm sorry, but how many projects has she produced where she's given opportunities to actresses like Nicole has?). How many times did they ask Nicole how it was to work with Meryl? Now, how many times did they ask Meryl the same opposite question? Do you think it's a coincidence season two of BLL practically sank at the Emmys and still she got a nom just fine? That's her track record with films for more than a decade now. Since Doubt the only actor nominated alongside her was Julie Roberts. That's one actor. 12 years. She's scored seven nominations in that time. Obviously, half the films she's been selected for were just garbage, but even her high profile prestige projects flops besides her: August: OC, Into the Woods, The Post (that BP nomination was an after-though). The Hours might be the one exception, sure. Although Meryl did get a nomination for Adaptation, so that can explain why she didn't get one in lead actress for The Hours (besides the fact that Nicole and Julianne outacted her with far less screentime). It also helps Nicole was playing the transformative role of an incredibly famous and influential female writer, on the cusp of several years of great work, after her marriage collapsed: the world wanted her to win, and so they forgot about Meh doing her overacted thing for once. This, of course, doesn't mean Nicole will have a nothing role in The Prom, although I can admit I was bitter she had to play a supporting role to Meryl when Murphy has been gushing about her for years and she's a far better singer (I'm sorry but, compared to the Broadway people she continues to steal roles from, Meryl has a mediocre voice, at best). But regardles of how well Nicole does, the attention will be on you know who. If Nicole spent three months learning Fosse style, I wanna know about it. I don't give a rat's ass about how it was to work with Meryl, I couldn't care less, and it has been asked to exhaustion. I need her to be part of an ensemble, and recieve attention as such. If she was sorrounded by nobodies, I'd understand, but Nicole is an Oscar winning actres who's fought her way back to the top, not some newcomer.

I feel like Kidman is doing her best to help Streep back with damage controls from the me too gate.
I KNow this is just speculation from my part but Streep was one of Harevy Weinstein's biggest advocates and biggest stars in his films, I mean she went on a podium and called him "GOD". So after the Weinstein Gate and ME Too movement, Meryl Streep took a big beating, especially with her "I didnt know" of course she knew, that is why she went to find a pack of lionesses to nurse her wounds and Kidman ever the loyalist brought her in and now keeps trying to remind prop her up infront of the media that Meryl Streep is the greatest.
I'm sure Kidman resects her a great deal but its no coincidence Meryl Has latched onto Nicole and other women post me too. Otherwise people like Rose MCgowan would catorgirze her as a "fraud" as "Fake" as "complicit" to the Weinsten Machine.

The thing is streep was very competitive for a long time and she doesnt have alot of female friends in her age bracket, well maybe Cher, but apart from CHer her contemporaries dont really like her its just the next gens that seem to idloze her, but things are not in a good place since me too and after she found out how alone she really was in the face of all the criticism.

Well.. Kidman was in the same boat. She didn't say anything along side Mitchelle Williams and Adams, all Weinstein's closest girls. And she won an Emmy and all the major awards the next year. I don't think Streep is choosing her projects thinking about that. Every actresses in Hollywood have been embarrassed for their reputation after this scandalous.

What I'm saying Streep especially because she used the Harvey Weinstein machine ruthlessly and her name was flagged by Rose McGowan. I think it was wise for Kidman not to say much because they used it all against them.

Some time ago I realized that if she didn't score a nomination for The Prom, this would've been the longest span of time without a nomination since 2003-2007. Which is crazy because it would only be the third year in which she misses, but that's how over-rewarded she usually is (if she doesn't get a nom next year either, which seems likely because she doesn't have anything lined-up, then it would be the longest span since 1991-1996, tied the longest in her career).
I hadn't noticed, though, that her last nomination came on the heels of the Weinstein scandal, and that she hasn't been nominated again since then. I thought, for some reason, The Post was 2016 instead of 2017. It's an interesting theory, that there could be some bad blood because she said 'she didn't know' but of course many other people said the same (Nicole included). Of course, none other benefited so much, in terms of Oscar noms, like Streep did. The fact that she made it in for the garbage that is Florence Foster Jenkins, or that she won for such a poorly recieved film like The Iron Lady are proof enough that she wouldn't have minded looking the other way if it meant securing her awards. Just like she doesn't have a problem taking all the roles for woman in her age-bracket. I don't know if people hate her for that last thing, but it's not like her contemporanies have the influence to get her or take away roles. Younger generations, though, are a different deal. It's kind of frustrating that she never supports anyone else but herself, or campaigns for anyone else, yet the hard-working actresses who are now becoming producers (Nicole, Amy, etc) all adore her and wouldn't hesitate to throw juicy roles at her feet, but that's life I guess.
I do think that this "drought", if you can call it that, has more to do with her roles since The Post being mostly cameos (Mamma Mia 2, Mary Poppins, Little Women). The one juicy role she had since was The Laundromat, which had poor reviews (sure, that's never stopped her before) and didn't even get to the Golden Globes. But she did blackface in that, which seems to be something people either ignore or are not aware of, so really the fact that she didn't get more attention for it was a good thing for her. Do you guys think she's struggled to get roles now that Weinstein is not backing her up? She is 70 after all, which doesn't seem important, since actresses age out much much younger in this industry, but 60 is not the same as 70, she's gonna struggle more and more to get juicy parts because +70 you either are a British Dame (Dench, Mirren, Smith) or do a knock-out performance in a European arthouse picture (Riva, Rampling), or you are Glenn Close and you're owed one. Other than that, it's hard to get nominated, even for her.
Now... The Prom. I really don't want her to get a nom for this, why lie. It will only lead to more opportunities and roles for a woman that never does anything for her peers and I want other talented women in her age bracket to get a chance for once. Besides, the role is exactly the kind of larger-than-life character that would require a talented performer who can reign it in; Meryl is just gonna do her hammy thing again and it's probably gonna tilt the film off-center.

Hey, I never said I'm not biased jajaja You're well on your right to be excited for it (especially if you're a fan, of course). About the whole "how is it to work with...?", I get why they ask people that, but every time? Like, the ammount of times that question has been brought up? And Nicole is not a nobody, they could ask Meryl how it was to work with her, isn't that interesting to know, too? I just resent how everyone falls to the background when she's involved, regardless of how talented they are, or how exciting their career is (Nicole's, much more than Meryl's, for over 20 years now, for example). Obviously, if I was a fan I'd be delighted, though, so I get why others don't see eye to eye with me on this subject.

Not that I think she's in the top 5 right now, but the guy who does the predictions for Variety doesn't know what he's talking about. Glenn Close, who probably will win, is 6th, he needs to read a bit before pretending to be an expert.
